Just north of Pittsburgh, discover some beautiful new places to bird watch, all linked by Route 422.  Start wherever you wish and simply head east or west on Route 422 to visit the other locations.
Lawrence County
Accessible by I-79, I-80 and the PA Turnpike. There is plenty of opportunity to see different species of birds. McConnells Mill State Park is home to a few birds such as the osprey, bald eagle and several species of hawk. West Park Nature Center is a 100 acre park with 25 acres dedicated as a Certified Audubon Society Wildlife Sanctuary.  Both parks are located off of Route 422.

Butler County
Accessible by I-79, I-80 and the PA Turnpike. You'll discover gorgeous green space and plenty of quirky treasures. You might spot osprey, bald eagles or a cerulean warbler.

Popular places for birding at Moraine include the waterfowl observation deck along old Route 422 (accessible from Route 528) and on the upper deck of Preston’s Pearl, an enclosed pontoon boat where passengers learn about Moraine State Park’s history and wildlife. Preston’s Pearl is operated by the Moraine Preservation Fund (MPF) and cruises are offered from Memorial Day Weekend through October.

Please visit our webpage for more birding information.
Armstrong County
Accessible by Routes 28 and 66, offers endless outdoor recreation activities and a wealth of waterways and trails to explore. Don't miss the Canfield-Holmes Wildlife Sanctuary & Cowanshannock Trail.  Another great source for wildlife activity & information is the Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek.  Settle in for the night at one of our hotels, quaint B&Bs, or scenic campgrounds.

Indiana County
Can be reached by Routes 22, 119 or 286. The foothills of the Allegheny Mountains create natural outdoor beauty and house more than 275 species of birds and many unique attractions. Spend the night in an Indiana hotel or one of the lovely B&Bs in Dilltown, Indiana or Saltsburg.  Learn more about birds from Todd Bird Club.
