Welcome to Butler County

Welcome to Butler County! Create your experience in our quaint and quirky small towns, let loose at our plentiful fairs and festivals, or let your taste buds take an adventure on our tasty trails!

Conveniently located north of Pittsburgh with easy access from I-79, I-80, the PA Turnpike and State Routes 422, 19 and 8, Butler County has plenty to do, from exploring museums and art galleries to enjoying the breathtaking scenery of our parks and rolling countryside. Relax at the spa, hit the greens or taste a flight of beer. You’re cordially invited to spend some time getting familiar with our fun and friendly county.

Explore some of Butler County’s history on Washington’s Trail 1753, a self-driving tour following young British Army Major George Washington’s 1753 trek from Virginia to Erie just prior to the start of the French & Indian War.

Visit Harmony, founded in 1804 by the Harmony Society of German Lutheran Separatists who were seeking religious freedom, and Saxonburg, which still maintains the architectural charm of a quaint German hamlet. Saxonburg was co-founded by John Roebling who also invented wire rope and designed and built the Brooklyn Bridge.

Butler County’s small town charm is also on full display in places like Slippery Rock, Evans City, Mars, and Zelienople. All boast great shops, boutiques and fabulous restaurants along the way as well.

Our natural beauty and the fun and adventure to be had may be its best feature. Moraine State Park is a haven for outdoor recreation as it is 16,725 acres, with 1,750 square feet of beach, 71 miles of trails and 42 miles of shoreline surrounding the 3,000 acre Lake Arthur.

Add in great hotels, B&B’s, campgrounds, wonderful museums, the practice site of the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins, festivals – including one that celebrates us as the Birthplace of the Jeep, fairs, an outstanding craft beer scene, and you’ll find Butler County to be a can’t miss destination.
